ROXBURY – Area riders are invited to participate in the Jump into Spring Show Jumping Day to be held Sunday, April 18, in Washington. Hosted by the Shepaug Valley Pony Club, Jump into Spring is a fun way for riders to learn about and participate in a show jumping event.

“The day is set up to be a learning experience for beginners, as well as a challenge for more advanced riders,” said Mike Spannaus, head of the Shepaug Valley Pony Club. “Our first course will be for riders who can complete a course of 18-inch jumps. We will have successively more challenging levels at two foot, two-foot-three, two-foot-six and two-foot-nine. We will also explain show jumping rules and the courses at the beginning of each level.”

Riders can participate as teams, and there will be a rotating pair bonus class, where a team of two riders completes a course of fences, changing riders to complete the course twice or when a disobedience occurs.

“It’s a good introduction to the discipline of show jumping,” said Spannaus. “The event will be in the spirit of Pony Club, which encourages safe riding techniques with an emphasis on education and fun.”

Reservations must be made for this event no later than Saturday, April 10. Gates open at 8 am on April 18 with the first event beginning at 9 am. Please call Mike or Lynda Spannaus at 1-860-355-3057 or email NFF@charter.net for further information.
