Ronald Schneider
Ronald Joseph Schneider, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Sandy Hook on March 26, 2025.
Born on April 7, 1938, in Bridgeport, he was a son of the late Viola and Joseph Schneider.
After graduating from Bullard-Havens Technical High School in 1956, Ron proudly served in the US Army, stationed at Fort Devens in Massachusetts. Following his discharge, he embarked on a fulfilling 47-year career at Vitramon in Monroe. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Joan “Jini” Moran. The couple married in the fall of 1963 and lived in Fairfield before settling into their forever home in Sandy Hook in 1965, where they raised their two sons, David and Michael.
In his younger days, Ron was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending countless weekends fishing with his sons and brother-in-law, Joe Michalek, in Long Island Sound aboard Joe’s trusty Grady White. Ron was gifted in all things mechanical and could fix nearly anything in his garage workshop and was always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter the challenge.
After losing his beloved wife in 2018 following her long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, when he served as her devoted caregiver, Ron continued to embody strength and resilience. He was a remarkable father, known for his straightforward nature and his ability to convey love through action rather than words. Ron faced the loss of his older brother, George, in early 2024, and just a week before his passing, he mourned the loss of his younger sister, Lois Harris.
Ron is survived by his sons, David of Portsmouth, N.H., and Michael of Brunswick, Me.; along with his cherished grandsons, Kaden and Eli, and several beloved nieces and nephews. He treasured the time spent with family and friends, often lightening the mood with his dry sense of humor and witty one-liners.
A private service for the family will be held later this year, with burial in Newtown Village Cemetery. In honoring Ron’s spirit of generosity, the family encourages those who wish to remember him to perform an act of kindness in his memory.
Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown, served Ron’s family.
