Local poets — and those who appreciate the art form — celebrated Poetry Month on April 6, when C.H. Booth Library hosted a reading and reception.

Males and females of all ages filled the meeting room of the library Sunday afternoon. Adult Services Librarian Shari Merrill thanked them all for attending the second annual Poetry Walk reception. Many in the room had responded earlier this year, when the library invited writers to submit their own original short poems to be considered for this year’s Poetry Walk.

Those who had their work accepted into the collection this year were invited to read on Sunday.

Merrill also announced a collection of signs featuring accepted poems had been erected along the sidewalks outside the library, where they will remain on view through the end of the month. Collections of original poems by the local writers — the ones printed on the signs and additional submissions she received — were collected in volumes and are now available for library patrons to read. Copies of the spiral bound books are available at the service desks on all three floors of the library, Merrill said.

Sunday’s event lasted approximately 45 minutes. Some poets returned to the podium in the meeting room to read additional poems once all invited guests read their chosen selections.
