Head O’Meadow Elementary School is celebrating its annual literacy week with visiting authors and community members. Starting on Monday, March 24, author Adriana Hernández Bergstrom visited the kindergartners and first graders to read her book Tumble. Tumble is a poetic story that follows the journey of a lone tumbleweed in a surprisingly busy desert. Other authors to visit Head O’Meadow were Elaine Alexander, author of Anglerfish, Dori Marx, author of The Dilemma of the Lazy Lions, and Melissa Dassori, author of JR Silver Writes Her World. On Tuesday, March 25, the students were encouraged to dress up as if they were going on vacation for the theme “reading is a journey.”

Community leaders, like First Selectman Jeff Capeci, also visited Head O’Meadow. Capeci read JR Silver Writes Her World to Mrs Girnys’ fourth grade class.
State Representative Mitch Bolinsky read Anglerfish to Mrs Ciaszki’s second grade class.
