Snapshot: Kristina Knapp
Family: My husband Enzo.
Pets: Our dog Gunnar.
How did you meet your husband? At a mutual friend’s Halloween party.
How long have you lived in Newtown? Since 2018.
What do you do for work? I started a social media business last January, so it’s been just over a year. I support small businesses with making content, or if they need any support with any online platforms I do that for them.
Are you a member of any clubs, organizations and/or communities of faith? Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue’s Ladies Auxiliary. I’m currently the vice president. It takes up a lot of my time, which I do enjoy. We’re accepting new members…
What did you want to be when you grew up? I just wanted to have pets. I love animals of all shapes and sizes. I didn’t want to be a vet, I just wanted to have lots of animals.
If you could spend the day with one person, living or deceased, who would you choose and why? My Mimi. She was my nanny and we were very close — partners in crime, per se. She ended up getting cancer and passing away when I was 11. She was my little pal.
What was the most recent movie you saw in the theater? I think The Little Mermaid, the updated one. I’ve definitely been enjoying watching movies at home, though. Sometimes I just think, “What’s the point of going out to the movies?” The snacks are free, and you’re home.
Favorite movie genre? I really like films by Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino. I don’t specifically have a preference on a type of movie, I just enjoy directors’ creativity.
Favorite actors? Whitney Houston. Kevin Costner — it was really a treat watching him in Yellowstone. I also really like Kiki Palmer.
Favorite TV shows? I like Grey’s Anatomy. I also like a lot of BBC shows. 10 out of 10 recommend, they’re so good. Many of them leave you asking questions, in a good way, like “Wait, it’s over??!” That’s what I like from a good TV show.
What do you like to do with your free time? I love to travel.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? No, because everywhere is different. The coolest place I’ve been was Morocco.
Favorite color? Emerald green.
Favorite food? I love Haitian food.
What is your favorite thing about Newtown? I’ve worked here since 2012 — through high school I was working in childcare — and I really do like the community focus. There’s so much fun stuff to do with kids. Despite not having my own, it’s nice to see them enjoy things. I also think despite development, it still gives a small town feel, too.
What is something you would like to see The Newtown Bee cover, or cover more in depth? Not necessarily something better, but I think you’ve been trying to get to the younger audiences, so maybe more online stuff, or coverage of their competitions. I remember growing up, in school we had pen pals. Maybe the paper could help facilitate something like that, and report on what the kids learn about their pen pals.
Do you have a personal credo? Be good. Do good.
