The Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary is hosting a variety of events in the upcoming weeks to get readers involved in the animal community around town.
FrogWatch USA will be hosting three different training events to learn how to identify different frogs and toads native to Newtown and how to collect the data to help protect the wetlands in the area. There are two free virtual training events, Tuesday, February 25 and Thursday, March 13 from 7-8:30 pm. There will be one in-person training event, free of charge, hosted at the Newtown Community Center on Wednesday, March 5, 7 to 8:30 pm. The training will give participants the necessary tools to take part in a free frog watching event on Wednesday, April 9, 7:30-9 pm, at Dickinson Park, Brushy Hill Road. All trainings and the frog watching event are open to all ages.
On Saturday, March 1, 1:30-3 pm, at the Newtown Community Center, John Kearns from Old Redding Farm LLC will be teaching “Backyard Chickens.” The registration fee is $35 for ages 16 and up. Kearns will go through best care and practices for baby chicks into adulthood.
