Rear-Ended On Berkshire Road

Newtown Police report Brian Sibley, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2005 Volvo Xc70, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 4:10 pm January 31. He was traveling behind a 1995 Ford Taurus operated by Casey Brackett, 19, of Sandy Hook. Brackett slowed due to traffic ahead and was struck from behind by Sibley.

A passenger in Brackett’s vehicle was transported to Danbury Hospital with a possible injury. Brackett’s vehicle was towed.

Sibley was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Struck Railroad Bridge

Newtown Police report Paz Ramos, 36, of Bridgeport, operating a 2012 BMW X3 Xdrive, was traveling eastbound on Botsford Hill Road at 8:13 pm February 2. The vehicle struck the right corner of the railroad bridge wall.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Struck Utility Pole

Newtown Police report Zachary Furtado, 28, of Bethel, operating a 2006 Honda Accord, was traveling westbound on Hawleyville Road at 6:56 am February 3. Furtado’s vehicle ran off the roadway to the right with the passenger side wheels off the roadway for approximately 200 feet before striking a utility pole.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Furtado was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Three Car Collision

Newtown Police report Steven Schoen, 51, of Newtown, operating a 2016 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 8:01 am February 4. He was traveling behind a 2016 Honda CR-V operated by Pamela McCay, 51, of Danbury, which was in turn traveling behind a 2014 Mazda 3 operated by Carlos Kelly, 33, of Stratford.

The front of Schoen’s vehicle struck the rear of McCay’s, which was pushed forward into the rear of Kelly’s.

No injuries were reported. None of the vehicles were towed.

Schoen was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Collision In High School Lot

Newtown Police report Nicholas Silva, 16, of Newtown, operating a 2012 GMC Canyon, was backing from a parking space at Newtown High School at 8:16 am February 4. An oil delivery truck was parked in the same area delivering fuel. Silva backed into the truck.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Mercury Hits Jeep

Newtown Police report Michael Flynn, 77, of Newtown, operating a 2006 Mercury Mariner, was parked in a space in the lot of 5 Queen Street at 4:41 pm February 4. A 2022 Jeep Compass owned by Mary Salley, 56, of Newtown, was parked next to Flynn. Flynn attempted to back from the parking space, and his vehicle made contact with the rear of Salley’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Too Fast For Conditions

Newtown Police report Pedro Rodriguez-Aramburo, 37, of Bethel, operating a 2021 Ram 1500, was traveling southbound on Taunton Hill Road at 9:49 pm February 6. He ran off the roadway and struck a utility pole.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Rodriguez-Aramburo was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Hit Guy Wire

Newtown Police report Julianna Schaedler, 26, of Bethel, operating a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was traveling southbound on Brushy Hill Road at 5:12 pm February 6. While negotiating a left-hand curve in the roadway and while attempting to stop for traffic ahead, the vehicle started to slide on the snow and slush. Schaedler veered right to avoid the stopped vehicle and left the southbound lane off the shoulder, striking a guy wire connected to a utility pole.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Schaedler was issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
