Newtown Police arrested a Shelton man on February 11 after the man reportedly threatened an employee of Dodgingtown Garage with firearms, among other aggressions.

Police identified the man as Vincenzo Ciocca, 60, of Shelton, who was arrested and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree threatening, second-degree breach of peace, carrying a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Newtown Police officers were dispatched at 4:42 pm Tuesday to Dodgingtown Garage on Dodgingtown Road (Route 302) for a report of an intoxicated man waving a gun around at the gas pumps.

It was also reported that he was exposing himself, urinating, and threatening an employee with handguns. As officers closed in on the location it was reported the man left in his vehicle and headed toward Bethel.

Newtown police officers were able to quickly locate and stop the vehicle on Route 302, at the intersection of Route 302 and Wolfpits Road in Bethel. Police blocked additional traffic, and communicated to other drivers to vacate the area.

A loaded .380 Caliber handgun and loaded .357 Magnum revolver were found in Ciocca’s possession.

Even though he was being uncooperative, officers worked together to safely take the man into custody and keep the public out of harm’s way, Newtown Police said in a statement posted to the department's Facebook page Wednesday morning. The post thanked multiple officers "for their professionalism and quick response," and highlighted two Newtown Emergency Communications Center telecommunicators for "their calm demeanor and clear communication of critical information from witneses on scene to officers en route."

Ciocca was held on a $100,000 bond until a court date of February 13 in Danbury Superior Court.
