Julia “Judy” Walther Person, cherished wife, mother, and sister, passed away peacefully on January 30, at the age of 95. She was the loving wife of Raymond Person for 61 years.

Julia was born on January 5th, 1930 in Danbury, to Ernst Walther and Helen (Leonard) Walther.

Judy graduated from Danbury High School and was a member of the Hatters Drum and Bugle Corps. She happily played her bugle and marched in many events. The Hatters performed in the 1949 Inaugural parade for Harry S. Truman, something Judy always recalled with pleasure. She maintained a lifelong love of music and listened to many genres daily.

Judy met her beloved husband Raymond on a blind date. They married in October 1953 and lived in Newtown, where they raised their daughter. Judy was a dedicated mother and took her parenting role seriously. She remained a homemaker until the mid 1970s, and then became employed by the Stony Hill Inn in Bethel. Judy’s position enabled her to meet people from all walks of life, including performer Willie Nelson.

Judy took special pride in maintaining the family home and was often found working in the yard with her husband. They created a lovely environment where they relaxed and gathered with family and friends. She also loved to cook and eat. An original “foodie,” Judy enjoyed creating her favorite meals as well as exploring restaurants and coffee shops.

Judy was predeceased by her parents; husband Raymond; sisters Betty Mertens and Leota Rassmussen; brother-in law Frederick Mertens; and brother-in-law Harvey Rassmussen.

She is survived by her daughter Susan Person of Newtown and Lise Dean and family of Broken Arrow, Okla.

The family has plans to celebrate Julia in the spring and will share information at a future time.

Those who would like to donate in Julia’s memory are welcome to visit the website of Newtown Scholarship Association at newtownscholarship.org.

Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown, served Julia’s family.
