Nicholas Briglia of Sandy Hook and Marco Island, Fla., passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on December 25, 2024.

Nick was born in the Bronx and at age 3 his family moved to Mt Vernon, N.Y., where he grew up. He attended Edison Technical High School where he played and excelled in baseball, basketball and football. At the age of 17 he joined the US Navy, and spent four years active duty and two years reserve. He got to see many beautiful countries; France, Key West, and Cuba were among his favorite destinations.

In 1964 he met his “Dolly.” They married the following year and had two sons. In 1973 he moved his family to Newtown where they have resided for the last 51 years.

Nick spent more than 45 years in the tire business and was affectionately known as “Uncle Nick” to many of his accounts and customers. After selling his business and several retirements, he worked as a warden for Newtown Parks and Recreation at Eichler’s Cove for many years. He enjoyed all the people he grew to know well over the years.

He loved his family, all kinds of music, sports, was an avid gardener spending many hours in his yard, loved to dance, and spend lots of time at his home in Marco Island.

Nick is survived by Joan, his wife of 60 years; his sons Michael and Dean; grandson Carter; his sister Donna Ferrara (James); sisters-in-law Gail Ryan and Lynn (Michael) DeFilippis; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by six siblings.

We would like to thank everyone at Western CT Regional Hospice and the VA for their tremendous support

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 11, between 12:30 and 4 at Nostrano’s Italian Eatery, 274 South Main Street in Newtown. Contributions in his memory can be made to Regional Hospice of Western CT or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
