Snapshot: Trevor Merrick
Any nicknames? The Apple Bird, which I’m called occasionally; or TJ.
Family: Immediate family is my parents and sister, and my late brother.
Pets: Two golden doodles, Cody and Sadie.
How long have you lived in Newtown? All my life so far.
What do you do for work? I am a sole proprietor. I do very low-level handyman jobs. I do lawns, garden cleanup and occasionally snow shoveling. I don’t like to shovel, and the plows usually beat me anyway.
What did you want to be when you grew up? A lottery winner. I haven’t made that one yet.
What do you like to do in your free time? I play several instruments. I also love playing video games, sledding, and swimming. The community center is great for that last one.
Are you a member of any clubs, organizations and/or communities of faith? I’m a member of The Young Catholic Professionals-Fairfield County chapter, the Knights of Columbus through St Rose Church. I’m a member of St Rose, and a Eucharistic Minister, which is very rewarding.
Favorite TV show? Breaking Bad
Favorite actors? Mel Gibson and Natalie Portman
What was the most recent movie you saw in the theater? Killers of the Flower Moon.
Who is your favorite musical performer? Myself (laughs). I also like Albert Montecalvo, who I’ve met through Danbury Music Centre. He’s a great person and his taste of music is great.
Favorite food? Thanksgiving dinner, all of it — turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, potatoes, and boiled carrots.
Favorite color? Hazel
Do you have a favorite travel destination? Easy, Cape Cod.
What is your favorite thing about Newtown? Being in Paugussett State Forest, on the hiking trails and at the water falls. I saw a snake on the trail recently, in the Lower Paugussett. That was interesting.
What is something you cannot live without? To quote Friedrich Nietzsche: “Without music, life would be a mistake.”
Do you have a personal credo? Again, what Nietzsche said. (smiles)
