Johannes Marinus Velthuizen, 77, of Creedmoor, N.C., passed away Monday, December 23, at Duke Regional Hospital.

Born on May 12,1947 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, he was the son of the late Andries Velthuizen and Margaretha Evers.

Johannes graduated from Newtown High School Class of 1966, where he was the Newtown Indian mascot. He attended Sacred Heart University in Bridgeport. From there he entered the business world and worked at Grolier Publishing Company in Danbury as Direct Mail Credit manager. From there he went on to work at American Maize as Corporate Credit Manager.

He was an avid reader and loved soccer and sports in general. He played for several adult soccer clubs and coached youth soccer.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jill Susan Andrews Velthuizen; one brother, Andre Velthuizen (Peggy); one niece, Michelle Difalco (Chris); one nephew, Vincent Velthuizen; one great niece, Johanna Difalco; two great nephews, Benjamin Difalco and Wyatt Difalco; and numerous cousins and extended family from Holland.
