Dolores M. Winans
Born January 26, 1935, in Danbury, Dolores M. Winans was a beacon of kindness, service, and unwavering dedication to her community. She passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, at the age of 89.
Dolores graduated from Danbury High School in 1952. She attended the University of Connecticut, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSRN) in 1957. Her commitment to caring for others became a cornerstone of her life and career.
On February 4, 1961, Dolores married Charles A. Winans. They built a family and a life rooted in love until Charles’s passing on May 28, 1999.
Dolores is survived by her sons Christopher and Helen (Brickfield) Winans of Danbury, Timothy and Christine Winans of Litchfield, and Matthew Winans and his partner Susan Hixson, of Scituate, Mass.; and her grandchildren Grace (Winans) and Christopher Jackmin, Raleigh, N.C., and Peter Winans, Brooklyn, N.Y.
Dolores retired in 1994 after a career with the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services. In 1996, Dolores dedicated herself to the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging (WCAAA) in Waterbury, serving as a volunteer from 1996 to 2018 and on the Board of Directors for 28 years. She held the role of secretary for 12 years and was an active member of the Agency’s Nutrition Committee and the Board’s Negotiating Committee, advocating tirelessly for better state rates for senior meals and the Connecticut Homecare Program for Elders. Her passion for ensuring the dignity and care of seniors inspired everyone who knew her.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 11, at 11 am, at St Rose of Lima, Church Hill Road in Newtown. A repast will follow at Sal e Pepe Contemporary Italian Bistro, 97 South Main Street in Newtown.
