Family: My husband Jeff; my son Joseph, who is a sophomore in high school; my daughter Emelia, who is in eighth grade; and Sophia, who is in seventh grade. They’re all in the Newtown Public Schools system.

How did you and your husband meet? We met in the same industry. We both worked in live entertainment. I worked for a company that did the sound for the band Phish, and he toured with the band.

Do you have any pets? We have a Bernese mountain dog named Baker.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We moved here in 2020.

What do you do for work? I own my own company, called Metinteractive. We build entertainment venues, and we do the audio and video systems for arenas, stadiums, theaters, casinos.

What do you like to do in your free time? There’s not a lot of free time, but mostly I support the PTA at the middle school, or driving my kids around to their various sporting activities. If there is some free time I enjoy going to a concert. Last night I went to The Bushnell and went to the Connecticut Forum for “A Conversation with Heather Cox Richardson.”

Favorite musicians? The Beatles, and Pink Floyd. I’m really into a band right now called Mt Joy. My favorite song of all time is Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Elegie,” which I learned to play and it got me a great scholarship into college.

What was the most recent concert you went to? Mt Joy, with my son.

Do you have a favorite musical genre? I like a little bit of everything. I just like music that is done well.

Favorite color? A turquoise-type color, although you’ll mostly see I coordinate the purples and pinks and I seem to always have that on.

Favorite food? Chocolate chip cookies.

What is something you cannot live without? My children, my husband, and my mom.

If you could spend the day with one person, living or deceased, who would you choose and why? My great-aunt Rachel, who I was named after. She created the ZIP Code as we know it, and she had a wrapping paper company called Norcross Greeting Cards. There was a need for that kind of organization, so to be a woman when Woodrow Wilson was President, and have been in business like she was, is pretty incredible. I knew her until I was seven and then she passed away.

Do you have any unusual talents? I can cry like a baby. It really sounds like a baby. I will do it for my children and they’re always like “How do you do that?!” and I don’t quite know.

What is your proudest accomplishment? My children.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I am the Day of the Wanderer in The Birthday Book, and that means I love to travel. I don’t usually have time to travel, but at the moment my kids are really pushing for the Maldives. I don’t know if that will happen, but I’m pretty much down for anything, anywhere, and all the time.

What is your favorite thing about Newtown? The community is amazing. In one town where I previously lived, I would wave at my neighbors as I passed them, and they never waved back. I lived there for ten years. Before I even moved to Newtown, I felt like I had people waving at me. People are so friendly, and so kind, united, and considerate of one another, and willing to support each other.

For my kids, where I used to live, everything was so far away. They went to school 30 minutes away, I worked 45 minutes away. Now, everything is so centrally located for us, it is so easy to get where we need to go. My kids love to walk around the town.

Do you have a personal credo? Something Martin Luther King Jr said: “If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michaelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”’
