SHOP Celebrates Annual Halloween Walk
On Saturday, October 26, the Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity, or SHOP for short, hosted its annual Halloween Walk. According to long-time SHOP leader, Sharon Doherty, the annual Halloween event was begun in 2012 because of Hurricane Alfred which caused so much damage in Newtown that families were afraid to send their children out for Halloween due to the dangerous conditions. Since then, the “Sandy Hook Halloween Walk” has become an annual tradition.
Hordes of people gathered for the event this year, including the trick-or-treaters, local shop owners, and volunteers from Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue. Uncle Matt Kirshner of Uncle Matt’s Bakery and Café ran out of candy while the trick-or-treaters came through.
Sandy Hook Center was alive with children and their families in costume, and some of the shop owners joined in on the fun, too. The stylists at Whip Salon dressed as queens and princesses as they handed out candy, and even the canines that attended dressed up, too.
