Newtown’s 29th Health Fair Planned For November 2
Newtown’s 29th Health Fair is scheduled for Saturday, November 2. Organizers Donna Culbert, Donna Monteleone, Dr Joseph Young, Natalie Jackson, Matt Ariniello, Dr Della Schmid, Neil Chaudhary and Joan Santucci are encouraging community members to attend, and bring the family.
The 2024 Health Fair will be presented at Newtown Community Center at Fairfield Hills from 9 am to noon. Admission is free.
“It’s a terrific venue for us with easy access and lots of room for our many exhibitors, activities, and health screenings,” said Culbert, director of Newtown Health District and longtime event co-organizer. “This event is laser-focused on the health and wellness of our community, and we are looking forward to seeing residents come out to this year’s Health Fair.”
Organizers are grateful, she said, for the opportunity to team up with the US Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) to offer a variety of veteran-specific services this year, in addition to offering free health screenings, free information and guidance, and loads of free giveaways.
Monteleone notes any veteran, “regardless of where they live, can come to the Health Fair and sign up with the VA. They just need to bring their DD-214 or their discharge papers.”
Culbert said all residents are invited to “drop by for a quick visit or stay for as long as they like.”
Attendees will be invited to participate in interactive demonstrations and enjoy wellness treatments.
“There are numerous free drawings, gift certificates to many local restaurants, and promotions from many of our local businesses,” she said.
Some of the activities include the aforementioned resources for VA benefits, services and health care questions through the DVA; car seat safety checks conducted by CT Children’s Medical Center; flu shots administered by health partners from Housatonic Valley Health District and Kevin’s Community Center (attendees should have their insurance card available); vision screenings by Newtown Lions Club; skin cancer screenings by Dr William Notaro; Hearts of Hope-Newtown; and visits with Newtown-Strong Therapy Dogs.
Additional exhibitors may be added by November 2.
