AARP Connecticut will host a live, interactive Tele-Town Hall Forum with Congresswoman Jahana Hayes and former State Senator George Logan, the candidates for Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District, on Friday, October 18, at 10:30 am, it announced October 16.

Anyone can listen and have an opportunity to ask a question via the livestream of the forum at facebook.com/aarpct or by calling 866-641-6908. Anyone who would like to submit a question in advance can find the link to do so at facebook.com/aarpct.

The tele-town hall forum is not a debate. It will be an opportunity for AARP Connecticut and the voters to ask the candidates for Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District questions that are important to residents age 50-plus and hear their responses in real time in advance of election day on November 5. The forum will cover a variety of topics including caregiving, Social Security, Medicare, prescription drugs, and livable communities.

Both candidates have been invited to make opening and closing statements and will take the same questions responding in rotating order with no rebuttals.

It was determined by a coin flip at the AARP Connecticut state office on October 15 that former Senator Logan will make the first opening remark and last closing remark while Congresswoman Hayes will make the second opening remark and first closing remark.

Hayes will provide the first answer to the opening question followed by Logan with the order or responses rotating for the remainder of the forum.

The candidates will have two minutes for opening/closing statements and 90 seconds to answer each question. AARP Connecticut State Director Nora Duncan will serve as the moderator and timekeeper.

According to AARP, voters age 50-plus are the majority in every election, and they decide who controls Congress and the White House. In 2022, 62% of the electorate in Connecticut was 50-plus. The general election in Connecticut is an opportunity for them to make their voices heard on the issues that matter to them.
