Cross Country Teams Race In Weston

Newtown High School’s cross country teams competed in races at Weston High on September 17. The girls defeated Weston 24-31 and Stratford 15-50, and lost 19-36 to New Milford.

The top Newtown runner in the girls’ race was fourth-place finisher Natalie McLean who came in with a time of 20:03. Annabelle Foley was eighth in 21:55, Jessie Moore tenth in 22:41, Claire DiNoto 11th in 22:42, Nadia Andrew 12th in 23:07, Alexia Young 17th in 23:42, and Madeline Britton 19th in 24:10. New Milford’s Katherine Taborsak won the race, edging out teammate Elisabeth Joudy as the duo had times of 19:40 and 19:40.6.

In the boys’ meet, Newtown narrowly defeated Weston 27-28, and the Nighthawks beat New Milford 26-33 and Stratford 25-36. The Nighthawks were led by the seventh- through tenth-place finishers. Orion Lowery clocked in at 17:32, Ubay Dissa finished in 17:47, Brian Sibley finished in 17:50, and Stephen Sibley came across in 17:57. Soheib Dissa was 14th with a time of 18:49, Aarav Shetty 16th in 18:54, and Mitchell Greenhaw placed 18th in 19:03. Weston's Asher Leuzzi was first in 16:50.

The Nighthawks will have a home meet on Tuesday, September 24, at the Reed School trails; the girls run at 4:30 followed by the boys at about 5 pm. Newtown will face Bethel and Brookfield in that race.
