Vote For Jahana Hayes
To the Editor:
It’s quiz time!
Your son seems unhappy. Do you:
A. Try to talk to him, maybe find a therapist he likes
B. Give him an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle for Christmas
There’s a knock at your door. Do you:
A. Say Hello and ask what the person wants
B. Grab your loaded gun and shoot
Your children say they don’t feel safe in school. Is this because:
A. They know there have been 105 school shootings just this year, and 416 since Columbine
B. They imagine their school might tie them down and perform surgery against their will
You hear about yet another school shooting. Do you want politicians to:
A. Pass a federal law requiring universal background checks and safe storage of firearms, to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and children
B. Say school shootings are “a fact of life” and offer nothing but thoughts and prayers
You wonder why the US is the only wealthy country in the world where firearms are the leading cause of death for children and adolescents. Is it because:
A. Our country has so many more firearms in the hands of civilians, more firearms than citizens
B. Children in other countries are smarter and run faster to get out of the way
I don’t mean to make light of this horror, but to point out that it’s being taken too lightly. We’re lucky in Connecticut; we have some of the strongest gun-safety laws in the country, so we also have one of the lowest rates of gun violence in the country. People in other states aren’t as lucky. We need politicians who are strong and smart enough to keep us safe by passing sensible federal gun-safety legislation.
We need to keep Jahana Hayes in Washington to keep our children safe!
