To the Editor:

This letter is in support of Jahana Hayes. She is running for reelection as the US Representative for Connecticut’s 5th congressional district, which includes Newtown.

Jahana’s story is an inspiring one. Despite many obstacles she achieved success after growing up affected by addiction and poverty and had a daughter at 17 years old. She has received multiple degrees and was named Teacher of the Year by President Obama in 2016, while teaching high school. It was her high school students that helped her decide to run for office and was elected in 2018 and became the first African American Congresswoman from the state of Connecticut.

Jahana supports gun violence prevention, immigration reform, affordable health care, and protecting the environment. She believes in working in a bipartisan way to get things done to improve the lives of everyone in our community. She believes that all people have value and deserve to have a voice in Washington, voting for Jahana will give us that voice in DC.
