Not Going Back
To the Editor:
The following letter to Tiffany Hawley, who wrote “Don’t Get Gaslit” for last week’s Letter Hive, has been received for publication in The Newtown Bee:
I read your letter to the Bee regarding gaslighting. I do agree with some of your letter. You mentioned the yard signs that “we are not going back.”
You asked, Going back to what? and then answered your own question listing grocery prices, gas prices, lower inflation, etc.
When I read those signs, my mind does not go to the above. I believe that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are referring to some of the issues listed below:
Abortion — 1973 the Supreme Court of the United States decriminalized abortion nationwide. A Republican Administration would like to reinstate the Comstock Act from the 1800s Banning Abortion and throwing doctors in jail.
Not going back to 1800.
Same Sex Marriage — On June 26, 2015 the Supreme Court ruled that states must license and recognize same sex marriage.
Not going back to 2014.
Department of Education — 1980 The Department of Education was established in the United States by Congress. The Trump Administration would like to disband the Federal Department of Education.
Not Going back to 1979.
These are only a few of the major issues concerning me. There are young people and parents in this country who deserve the same rights as I had. I am talking about rights, not the cost of gas, groceries, lower inflation. I believe that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are also talking rights. Rights that are taken away are rights that are hard to get back. No matter what sign you put on your front lawn, if you love this country you have the right to express your opinion and not go back.
