Rear-Ended On Wasserman
Newtown Police report Matthew Irving, 20, of Newtown, operating a 2018 GMC Terrain, was traveling eastbound on Wasserman Way at the intersection of Berkshire Road at 11:31 am August 10. He was traveling behind a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica operated by Donato Telesco, 73, of Sandy Hook. Telesco accelerated and then stopped, and Irving accelerated but did not stop in time, striking the rear end of Telesco’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Irving was issued a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Struck Signpost
Newtown Police report Denise Williams, 57, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Infiniti Q50, was traveling eastbound on Jeremiah Road at 6:50 pm August 12. While attempting to negotiate a curve, the rear right quarter panel of the vehicle struck a municipal sign post jutting into the roadway.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed. The sign post was positioned out of the roadway.
No enforcement action was taken.
Collision At Intersection
Newtown Police report Sophia Lablanc, 24, of Weatogue, operating a 2024 Toyota Corolla, was at the exit 11 off-ramp at the intersection with Wasserman Way at 8:48 pm August 12. Jeffrey Haddad, 47, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2011 Subaru Legacy, was stopped at the red light in the right turn lane at the same intersection. Lablanc attempted to turn right past Haddad and the front right end of her vehicle struck the rear left side of Haddad’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Lablanc was issued a verbal warning for failure to obey a traffic control signal.
Hit Embankment
Newtown Police report Hayden Gutt, 25, of Mahopac, N.Y., operating a 2019 Tesla TS, was traveling northbound on Botsford Hill at 10:16 pm August 12. While attempting to negotiate a curve, Gutt’s vehicle left the travel lane and went up an embankment.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Gutt was issued a written warning for failure to maintain a lane.
Struck Oncoming Car
Newtown Police report Derek Reeves, 59, of Danbury, operating a 2015 Jeep Liberty, was traveling northbound on Swamp Road at 2:39 pm August 14. Llagcha Espinoza, 25, of Waterbury, operating a 2015 Ford Transit, was traveling southbound on Swamp Road. Reeves crossed over the centerline and into the path of Espinoza’s vehicle.
Espinoza and a passenger were transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. Both vehicles were towed.
Reeves was issued an infraction for failure to drive right on a curve.
Passing On Right
Newtown Police report Roman Lakanyuk, 57, of Ridgefield, operating a 2008 Mercedes-Benz E3504m, was traveling on Queen Street at 5:26 pm August 14. Meghan Salonia, 41, of Newtown, operating a 2024 Volkswagen Atlas, was attempting to turn onto Mile Hill Road. Lakanyuk struck Salonia’s vehicle while attempting to pass.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Lakanyuk was issued a verbal warning for passing on the right.
Following Too Close
Newtown Police report Penelope Fallone, 29, of Berlin, operating a 2023 Honda Pilot, was stopped on Key Rock Road at the intersection with Sugar Street at 2:43 pm August 16. He was stopped behind a 2018 Honda Accord operated by Janet Bennett, 80, of Newtown. Fallone’s vehicle rear-ended Bennett’s.
Bennett was transported to Danbury Hospital on the complaint of an injury. Neither vehicle was towed.
Fallone was issued an infraction for following too close.
Backed Into BMW
Newtown Police report Emily Howard, 43, of Newtown, operating a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas, was backing out of a parking space in the lot of 125 South Main Street at 2:46 pm August 16. A 2020 BMW 330XI owned by Corina Place of Southbury was parked across from Howard. Howard backed into Place’s vehicle with a bike rack.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Bear Cub Hits Vehicle
Newtown Police report Kristen Keil, 45, of Newtown, operating a 2008 Toyota Sienna, was traveling westbound on Currituck Road at 6:35 pm August 16. A bear cub ran out in front of the vehicle, striking the vehicle in the rear driver’s side quarter panel.
Keil and a passenger were not injured. The vehicle was not towed.
DEEP did not respond to the incident.
Failure To Appear Charge
Newtown Police report Sachin Earle, 25, of Bridgeport, was arrested on an outstanding warrant at 9:45 pm August 16 on the charge of second-degree failure to appear. She was released on a $100 bond with a court date of September 3.
Too Fast For Conditions
Newtown Police report Calle Cardenas, 39, of Newtown, operating a 2006 Honda Civic, was traveling southbound on Main Street in the area of Martin Street at 7:46 am August 19. Cardenas lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve and crossed into the northbound lane before exiting off the northbound shoulder. Her vehicle struck a fence and mailbox on Currituck Road.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Cardenas was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.
