Stolen Valor Statements Are Despicable

To the Editor:

This is in response to JD Vance’s despicable statements about Stolen Valor…...

Mr Tim Walz enlisted in 1981 at the age of 17 and served his country in the Army National Guard for 24 years, retiring in 2005.

About a month ago I was driving my car which has veteran plates because my husband served in the Army. A car pulled up alongside of my car and was pointing to the back of my car. I thought there was something wrong and rolled down my window to see what the problem could be. The gentleman sitting in the car asked me if I served in the military and I replied that it was my husband.

He told me to thank him for his service. He didn’t ask any questions about his service record. He didn’t want to know what he had done while in the Army so he could decide if it was something he would approve of.

He just wanted to thank him for his service to his country.

Thanking someone who served should be all that matters.

There is no place for wrongly criticizing, insulting or undermining someone’s service to their Country as JD Vance is doing for political gain.

My last words for Mr JD Vance, “Thank You for Your Service.”

As a veteran, I can say that misrepresenting your rank is taken seriously. Specifically, the Harris campaign originally stated that he was a “retired command sergeant major”, the “mistake” was corrected last Thursday on the campaign website (Source NPR8-8-24). I am retired. Am I also allowed to change my rank? In retrospect, I feel bad for the Harris campaign, they took Private Walz at his word, and maybe they should fact-check more often.

Sure Mr. Walz seems like the diabolical type who would purposely misrepresent himself or maybe I’m thinking of someone else. The truth is that he was promoted to command sargeant major in 2004 but retired one rank lower as he was missing one course. But of course, we’ll leave that detail out.

Walz is a wolf in sheep’s clothing…very very far left and contrary to the media, not well liked in MN and most of the mid west.

He did not meet time in grade or training requirements to retain the provisional promotion. So he separated at the highest grade attained – MSG.

Mr. Walz lied about carrying a weapon of war in war. He also lied about retiring as a Command Sergeant Major. All his lies are documented from his previous political campaigns. He left the service to avoid overseas assignment to a ‘war zone’ – which he had earned the right to do. Just looks bad. Calling out someone’s lies is not despicable – lying is. I am a veteran and I thank both for their service. But I cannot condone what Mr. Walz has done and said in pursuit of political office.

JD Vance said that he would NEVER discount anyone for their service to our country. He DID thank Walz for his service. What he and many other veterans take issue with is Walz lying about being in combat and his rank. Walz said he “misspoke”…that’s a politicians way of saying they got caught in a lie..Remember Sen. Dick Blumenthal…he also ‘misspoke’ when he said he served in Vietnam….When you get only one side of a story from a leftist media, you may be inclined to believe everything that that report on, true or not….PS..Walz is a wolf in sheep’s clothing…very very left.

Wow, it’s almost as if he described the Medal of Freedom with more reverence than the Medal of Honor diminishing the sacrifice service members have made for the country.
