To the Editor:

This is a response to a letter by conservative Andrew J. Buzzi, Jr in the Letter Hive on August 2, 2024 ((“Saving Democracy From An Existential Threat”).

The only existential threat to Democracy is you and your ilk. Like all the conservatives who dismiss the truth printed in The New York Times as being “liberally biased,” you falsely believe the Supreme Court has been progressive activists for “seventy years.” Incorrect. The Supreme Court was made up of the best Constitutional legal minds from a combination of Republican and Democratic administrations.

Sandra Day O’Connor was appointed by President Reagan and received an approval vote of 99-0. Ruth Bader Ginsburg was appointed by Clinton and was approved 96-3. Unethical and highly corrupt Justice Clarence Thomas received only 52 approval votes. His partner in low standards, Justice Alito, got 58 affirmative votes. The highest of the three appointees by Trump received 54 votes. Obviously a ploy by the GOP to pack the court with justices who put their party affiliation above the US Constitution. Just like Senator Mitch McConnell did in denying a vote for Obama appointee Merrick Garland.

As you pull out the only tool in your arsenal, the ever dismissive “liberal” label, please be aware that I’m a longtime independent who has voted to the best candidate regardless of their party affiliation.

The United States flag that you mention at the end of your letter stands for all Americans, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Let’s all remember that in November.
