Historical Society To Host Sunday Afternoon Open House Featuring Local Garden Club
Newtown Historical Society invites readers and members to attend its upcoming Open House on Sunday, June 23, when they will host a special collaboration with The Garden Club of Newtown.
The event will take place at the historic Matthew Curtiss House, at 44 Main Street in Newtown, from 12 to 4 pm.
The open house will offer a unique opportunity for the community to explore one of Newtown’s cherished historical landmarks. Guests will be guided through the building, learning about its rich history and the significant role it has played in the community.
The event will also showcase the beautiful Curtiss House garden, which will be the highlight of the day.
Members of The Garden Club of Newtown, renowned for its dedication to horticulture and beautification projects in the area, will be present to provide an informative tour of the garden. They will share their extensive knowledge about the variety of plants, flowers, and herbs cultivated in the garden.
Attendees will have the chance to learn about the historical significance of these plants, their uses, and tips on how to care for them in their own gardens.
The Dooryard Garden of The Matthew Curtiss House Museum was designed and installed in 2011, and continues to be maintained by The Garden Club of Newtown. The garden contains plant varieties that reflect a family’s culinary, household, and medicinal needs of the 1700s and early 1800s era.
In addition to the garden tour, the event will feature light refreshments, and attendees will have the opportunity to engage with members of both Newtown Historical Society and The Garden Club of Newtown.
The family-friendly event is free and open to all ages, providing a charming weekend activity for history buffs, gardening enthusiasts, and everyone in between. As always, donations will be welcomed and deeply appreciated.
