Joe Sigler
Joe Sigler died peacefully May 3, 2024, surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Sigler; his children Brian Sigler, Allison MacKenzie and Keith Sigler; his daughter-in-law Olga Sigler and son-in-law, Chris MacKenzie; his grandchildren Taylor, Mallory, Chris, Billy, Morgan, Joey, Ren and Hayden; and niece Susie Goetz.
He was born on March 23, 1945, and grew up in Mount Vernon, N.Y. He met his wife Sue on a blind date and they were later married in 1969. He played baseball at Adelphi University, before serving in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. After his service, he finished his college degree at Pace University. Before kids, Joe and Sue loved riding his Triumph motorcycle, canoeing and camping with friends.
After having the kids, they lived in Newtown for many years, where he opened his bike shop, TC Cycle. Much of the 90s he travelled the state and country for wrestling tournaments and BMX races. Supporting his kids’ sports was a top priority for him and he was always their number one fan. He could always be found at the BMX track vending bike parts, volunteering as the gate starter and offering encouragement to all the riders.
Joe and Sue retired in Bluffton, S.C., where he loved playing golf, making friends in the pool, and living the best of low country life. He loved playing with his grandkids both in S.C. and up in Connecticut, teaching them to fish, how to throw a baseball and driving them wherever they needed to go.
Joe was an athlete all his life and had a beautiful singing voice. He loved singing the oldies or any silly made-up song. He was a caring individual, always willing to help anyone in need, and his smile would light up a room.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 13, at 11 am, at St Peter’s Church in Hebron, Conn. Please join us to share memories and laughter of your time with Joe.
