DUI Arrest
At about 3:16 am on August 24, police said they stopped motorist Suzanne Purcell, 47, of New Milford to investigate on Currituck Road, near Butterfield Road. Police said they charged Purcell with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. After processing, police released Purcell on $450 bail for a September 7 court appearance.
No Wages
Police report they arrested Michael Polley, 31, of Kent and formerly of Newtown, on a warrant on the afternoon of August 23, charging him with failure to pay wages. Details on the incident that led to the arrest were not available.
Police released Polley on $3,900 cash bail for a September 7 court arraignment on the charges.
Gas Station Break-In
Police report they learned on the morning of August 23, that someone during the preceding overnight hours had forcibly entered NJK Sunoco, a gas station/auto repair shop at 75 South Main Street.
The person or persons who entered the building stole a cash register which held a small amount of money, police said.
Police are investigating the burglary/larceny and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact investigating Officer Charles Guernsey at the police station at 203 426-5841.
Warrant
Police report that on the evening of August 22, they arrested Ian Doerr, 27, of Sandy Hook, on a warrant, charging him with sixth-degree larceny. After receiving a complaint on June 22, police investigated and obtained the court warrant against Doerr. After processing, Doerr was released for a September 5 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.
Failure To Appear
Newtown police report that while using an electronic marker plate reader on the afternoon of August 21, they stopped motorist Keegan Zuris, 25, of Brookfield on Mt Pleasant Road because the plate reader had indicated there was a pending arrest warrant for her from Danbury police. Newtown police verified that the warrant existed and then charged Zuris with second-degree failure to appear in court.
Danbury police had charged Zuris with sixth-degree larceny in December. Zuris has not yet pleaded to that charge. Newtown police said they released Zuris on $50 bail for a September 5 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.
Exit 11 Ramp
State police report an accident on the Exit 11 off-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 at about 3:46 pm on August 20.
In that incident, motorist Kai Zhang, 34, of San Francisco, Calif., who was driving a 2017 Ford Edge SUV, struck the rear end of a 2015 Subaru Outback SUV driven by Brenna Brown, 21, of North Salem, N.Y., state police report. There were no injuries. Zhang received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Car Vs Deer
Police report that at about 3:10 am on August 19, motorist Thomas Larussa, 21, of Newtown was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus sedan on Riverside Road when he spotted a deer on the roadway. The Ford then went off the right side of the road and struck some guardcables, police said. There were no injuries. Larussa received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.
Evading Responsibility
A two-vehicle accident occurred near 4 Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook Center about 12:30 pm on August 19.
In that incident, a large silver-colored SUV and a Toyota Prius collided, police report. The SUV driver drove away from the accident scene before police arrived, police said. The SUV driver was described by police as a white woman who was wearing her gray hair in a ponytail. The SUV involved in the crash would have collision damage to its right-front corner, according to police.
Police are seeking information about the SUV driver and ask anyone who knows the woman's identity to contact investigating Officer Adam James at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.
Buick Vs Honda
On eastbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 11, at about 9:22 pm on August 19, motorist Marlene Brooks, 44, of Cortlandt, N.Y., who was driving a 2010 Buick Enclave SUV in the left lane, entered the highway's center lane and struck motorist Linda Field, 60, of New Britain, who was driving a 2003 Honda Accord, state police report.
There were no injuries. Brooks received an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.
Vehicle Vs Guardrails
About 2:48 pm on August 18, motorist Thomas French, 67, of Newtown was driving a 2006 Honda Accord westward on Interstate 84, near the Bancroft Road overpass, when the vehicle drifted to the left road shoulder and then struck some guardrailing, according to state police. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported French to Danbury Hospital for a medical evaluation. State police took no enforcement.
Dinglebrook Lane
At about 11:29 pm on August 18, motorist Samuel Hingst, 17, of Westport, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Wrangler SUV southward on Dinglebrook Lane, drove off the right side of the road at 3 Dinglebrook Lane and struck a curbside mailbox, drove across a lawn, and then hit a tree.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Hingst for traveling too fast for conditions.
DUI/Work Zone
Police report that while on private duty at a construction work zone on Queen Street near Newtown Middle School late on the morning of August 17, they spotted a motorist drive through the work zone at high speed.
Police stopped the vehicle, investigated and then charged motorist James Pixley, 30, of Newtown, with driving under the influence and with traveling unreasonably fast.
After arrest processing, police released Pixley on $500 nonsurety bail for an August 31 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.
Two Charges
Police report that following a two-vehicle accident on the evening of August 17 on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Wasserman Way, they charged motorist Randall Re, 31, of Danbury, with driving with a suspended license and with following too closely. There were no injuries in the incident. Re was released on $100 bail for an August 31 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.
I-84 Accident
At about 3:28 pm on August 16, motorist Justin Hill, 43, of Diana, Texas, who was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck eastward on Interstate 84 near Exit 9, stopped for some stopped traffic and was then struck from behind by motorist Jonathan Tremblay, 40, of Winsted, who was driving a 2011 International truck, state police report.
There were no injuries. Tremblay received an infraction for following too closely, according to state police.
Dodgingtown Crash
Motorist Patrick O'Neil, 47, of Bethel was driving a 2005 Ford Explorer SUV eastward on Dodgingtown Road and approaching its intersection with Shelly Road at about 2:03 am on August 14, when an animal ran in front of the vehicle, resulting in O'Neil swerving to the right to avoid a collision, police said.
The Ford, however, struck some guardcabling along the right road shoulder. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned O'Neil for failure to drive in the proper lane.
Sandy Hook Intersection
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Toddy Hill Road about 7:22 am August 12.
On eastbound Berkshire Road, motorist Rogerio Gualberto, 40, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer SUV, stopped at a red traffic signal, after which motorist John Guglielmoni, 30, of Stratford, who was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, stopped behind the Ford.
When the signal turned green, the Chevrolet drove forward and struck the rear end of the Ford. There were no injuries. Police said Guglielmoni received a written warning for following too closely. Police report they issued Gualberto a written warning for driving without a license.
Wasserman Way
Police report a two-vehicle accident on Wasserman Way near the traffic signal at its intersection with the Exit 11 ramps for Interstate 84, at about 6 pm on August 7.
Motorist Fernando Silva Marques, 61, of Danbury, who was driving a 2009 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck, stopped for the traffic signal and was then struck from behind by motorist Susan Smith, 65, of Palm Harbor, Fla., who was driving a 1999 Toyota RAV-4 SUV.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Smith for following too closely.
