Newtown Woman’s Club Celebrates Conclusion Of 56th Anniversary Season

Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC concluded its 56th season on May 16 with a luncheon meeting at Sal e Pepe Contemporary Italian Bistro.

Installation Officer Jo Ann Bruno installed the 2024-26 Officers, who will be led by President Rosemary Ray. Additional officers for the next two years will also include First Vice President Gina Pin, Co-Second Vice Presidents Marie Sturdevant and Marg Studley, Recording Secretary Pat Lowell, Treasurer Peg Forbell, and Assistant Treasurer Sylvia Poulin.

In addition to the installation, pins were presented to the membership for years of service by Pat Lowell and Gina Pin.

Membership Pins (for less than five years) were presented to Nina Frankonis, Gina Pin, Karen Stern and Susan Sullivan, each with one year in the club; Barbara Bradley, Pat Lowell and Susan Norwell, two years; and Sandra Dickinson, four years;

Five-Year Pins (5-9 years): Louise Baker, five years; and Michelle Rosenthal, Chris Dran, Lisa Goosman and Joan Lavery, nine years;

10-Year Pins (10-14 years): Jeanne Braude-Magi and Rosemary Zanfini, 10 years; LeReine Frampton, 12 years; and Jan Happel, Rosemary Rau and Judy Rosentel, 14 years;

15-Year Pins (15-19 years): Pat Bailey and Mary Ann Magee, 15 years; Millie Anderson, Jo Ann Bruno, Colleen Honan, Alica Horahan and Joyce Webster, 16 years; Joan Fuest and Marg Studley, 17 years; and Marie Fodor, Dot O’Byrne and Sylvia Poulin, 19 years.

20-Year Pins (20-24 years): Mary Obre, 21 years; Janet Stockalis, 22 years; Joan Nickerson, 23 years; and Nancy Kennedy, 24 years.

25-Year Pins (25-29 years): Evie Watts, 25 years; Marcia Cavanaugh and Dolores Judge, 26 years; Betty Doty, 27 years; and Jean Swanhall, 28 years (and a Charter Member);

30-Year Pin (30-34 years): Margot Hall, 33 years;

35-Year Pins (35-39 years): Marie Sturdevant, 35 years; and Peg Forbell and Ann Kirk, 36 years;

40-Year Pin: Betty Warner (40 years);

45-Year Pin: Flo Caron (45 years and a Charter Member);

50-Year Pin and a congratulatory letter from GFWC International President Debra A Strahanoski: Lilleba Peterson; and

55-Year Pin: Coke Cramer (56 years).

The 49 members of Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC represent a combined 884 years of service.

Members on May 16 also celebrated the 95th birthdays of Founding Newtown Woman’s Club member Coke Cramer and long-standing member Joyce Webster.

The club schedules a business/luncheon meeting for the third Thursday of each month, September through May.

Since March 1968, Newtown Woman’s Club has been a part of the community, providing volunteer service as a member of both the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Connecticut and General Federation of Women’s Clubs.

The purpose of the organization is to promote friendship among members, to provide opportunities for organized interest, and to participate in social, cultural, philanthropic, intellectual, and civic affairs of the Newtown community. Any woman who is interested in community service is invited to join.

The club schedules a luncheon meeting for the third Thursday of each month, September through May. The 2024-25 season will open on September 19 at a location TBA.
