Newtown Choral Society will perform its spring concert, “Inspired Shakespeare,” Sunday, May 19, at Newtown Meeting House.

The program will feature music inspired by the plays of Shakespeare from the opera Macbeth by Guiseppi Verdi, presented in 1847, to the musical @Juliet, currently on Broadway with music by Justin Timberlake.

The performance will begin at 4 pm.

Tickets are $10, $8 for seniors and students, and will be available at the door.

Directed by Mary Andreotta and accompanied by Susan Anthony-Klein, the concert’s highlight will be the aria “Que Fais-tu, blanche tourterelle,” from the opera Romeo et Juliette, sung by alto Caroline Midgette.

The concert will also include medleys of music from West Side Story and The Lion King and feature percussionist Bob Nolte.

The finale of the concert will be music from the current Broadway musical, @Juliet, currently at the Stephen Sondheim Theater. The winner of five Tony Awards, the play asks what would have happened if Juliet hadn’t ended it over Romeo and went on with her life.

The choir will be singing three songs from the show, “I Want It That Way,” “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely,” and Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling.”
