The Beauty Of Words At Fairfield Hills
To the Editor:
Upon moving to Newtown a few years ago, I quickly realized what an asset it was to have The C.H. Booth Library in town, especially since I love books. Recently, this was more evident to me as a poem I wrote, “The Hummingbird,” is one of the many poems, written by different poets of all ages, chosen to be displayed at Fairfield Hills by the library. This special installation of poems is called the “Poetry Walk,” and is in celebration of National Poetry Month, which takes place in April. I would like to publicly thank the library staff, most especially Shari Merrill, the Adult Services Librarian, for putting together this literary event. It has been an uplifting experience for me, as well as the other aspiring poets, who I met at a library reception, a couple of weeks ago.
Today as I walked along the path and viewed the poems on display at Fairfield Hills, it struck me that in the midst of some ugly, old, neglected buildings, were some things that were very beautiful. Flowering bushes, green grass, budding trees, and a path filled with poetry and creativity. The poems are lined up in the perfect spot.
