Broadway Came To Newtown
To the Editor:
We had the absolute pleasure of attending the NHS presentation of Urinetown this past weekend. Without a doubt this was an amazing effort on the part of the students, staff, parents, and volunteers.
The title of the show might seem off-putting but the message is clear. We need to keep HOPE close to our hearts when sometimes giving up and conceding seems to be the only option.
Kudos to Jane Matson for directing this massive undertaking and bringing this show over the finish line. To coordinate all the moving parts takes a huge talent, but without the talent of the actors there could be no show. Kudos to the orchestra for the fine music, without which there could be no musical. Kudos to the set designers for the skill and talent that went into the creation of Urinetown. Kudos to the sponsors who gave so generously in support of the arts that allow these talented students to give back to the community with such great passion!
There will be more shows to come and we should welcome them all. But, for now, this play will resonate for a long time, while humming and singing the finale song entitled “I See a River.”
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
