George Lionel Stowell was born on June 10, 1933, in Fairfield. He entered into eternal rest in the comfort of his home on March 9, 2024.

George was the only child of George St John Stowell and Helen Bergman. He served in the United States Air Force as an airplane mechanic in Big Spring, Texas, during the Korean War, and married the love of his life, Barbara Burr, on February 8, 1958.

George directed the retrofitting of numerous manufacturing facilities in Fairfield County and New York. While he enjoyed industrial construction, his true love was farming and working his land at his home in Easton, which eventually blossomed into Cold Valley Christmas Tree Farm. “You never really own land,” he would say, “you only get to use it for a while.” And so he did.

George and his sons participated in the Indian Guides, where he and Barbara met several couples who became lifelong friends. Together, the families enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, clamming, and sailing.

George found peace in tending to his garden and loved spending time with family and friends at the vacation home he built in Vermont. He was a hard-working man who liked to tease, joke, and laugh.

George is survived by his wife, Barbara; their four children, George B. Stowell (Kwan), Deborah L. LeMien (Henry), Mark E. Stowell (Eve), and Kurt R. Stowell; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service for George will be held on Saturday, March 16, at 11 am, at Christ Church Trumbull (Tashua), followed by his burial with full military honors at Lawncroft Cemetery in Fairfield.
