Snow Clearance At Hydrants, Second Exits Required
Fire Marshal Bill Halstead is urging that residential and commercial property owners keep fire hydrants free and clear of snow, in the event that the hydrants are needed for firefighting in winter conditions.
The fire marshal asks that people who have a conventional fire hydrant, a dry hydrant, or an underground water storage tank for firefighting near them to keep those plumbing fixtures accessible for firefighting. The area around those devices should be shoveled of snow or plowed out, as needed, he said.
Also, secondary exits from buildings must be cleared of snow, he said.
