Hit Utility Pole

Newtown Police report that James Keegan, 46, of Southbury, operating a 2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty, lost control of his vehicle on Echo Valley Road at 1:38 pm February 13 and hit a utility pole, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Keegan’s vehicle was towed.

Police issued Keegan an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Drove Off Road Into A Ditch

Newtown Police report that Gabrielle Delgado, 33, of Torrington, operating a 2018 Subaru Outback, was traveling northbound on New Lebbon Road towards High Rock Road at 12:04 am February 14. When Delgado entered the intersection, she failed to complete the left turn onto High Rock Road and her vehicle drove off the northbound shoulder of the road into a ditch.

No injuries were reported. Delgado’s vehicle was towed.

Delgado was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Read-Ended While Slowing For Traffic

Newtown Police report that Victor Caivinagua-Samaniego, 21, of Waterbury, operating a 2019 Isuzu NPR, was traveling southbound on Hawleyville Road in the area north of Mt Pleasant Road in traffic directly behind Richard Brennan, 69, of Cheshire, operating a 2015 Honda Pilot Ex, at 8:30 am February 14.

Brennan slowed his vehicle due to the traffic and Caivinagua-Samaniego, failing to drive a reasonable distance apart from Brennan’s vehicle, turned to the right in an attempt to avoid contact with Brennan’s vehicle. The right rear corner of Caivinagua-Samaniego’s vehicle made contact with the left rear side of Brennan’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Caivinagua-Samaniego’s vehicle was towed.

Caivinagua-Samaniego was issued an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Collision At Intersection

Newtown Police report that Joann Manes, 72, of Newtown, operating a 2012 Hyundai Elantra, was traveling northbound on Poverty Hollow Road and Kathryn Corby, 28, of Bethel, operating a 2018 Hyundai Tucson, was traveling eastbound on Hattertown Road at 5:57 pm February 16. Manes’ vehicle hit Corby’s vehicle at the intersection of Poverty Hollow Road and Hattertown Road.

No injuries were reported. No vehicles were towed.

Manes was issued a verbal warning for failure to obey a stop sign. Corby was issued a verbal warning for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Debate Over Collision At Intersection

Newtown Police report that Dawn Wiltse, 48, of New Fairfield, operating a 2018 Kia Sorento LX, had her vehicle strike the vehicle of Cameron Calahan, 35, of Norwalk, operating a 2011 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro, as he was driving through the intersection at Hattertown Road and Key Rock Road at 8:43 pm February 16. Wiltse said she had approached the intersection, yawned, and had struck Calahan’s vehicle as he was driving through the intersection. Calahan said he was driving through the intersection and was struck by Wiltse’s vehicle as she failed to stop for the stop sign.

No injuries were reported. No vehicles were towed.

Wiltse was issued an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Traveling Too Fast For Conditions And Hit Utility Pole

Newtown Police report that Douglas Haggerty, 35, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, was traveling southbound on Washington Avenue around Farrell Court when it went off the road and shoulder to the right and struck a curb and a utility pole at 1:38 am February 17. Haggerty said he was traveling along when he lost control on the slippery road surface and the vehicle skidded off the roadway. Police said that it had been snowing out and there was visible snow accumulations of less than one inch on the road at the time.

No injuries were reported. Haggerty’s vehicle was towed.

Haggerty was given an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Collision At Intersection After Failing To Obey Stop Sign

Newtown Police report that they responded to a two-car motor vehicle accident on South Main Street at the intersection of Park Lane at 8:05 am February 18. Josa Valverde, 25, of Bridgeport, operating a 2005 Ford Explorer, said that he was traveling northbound on South Main Street past the intersection of Park Lane when Michael Trnik, 49, of Newtown, operating a 2011 Honda Civic LX, exited from Park Lane onto South Main Street and struck his vehicle. Police said that Trnik was traveling eastbound on Park Lane. Trnik stated that he stopped for the stop sign before turning onto South Main Street, and that upon proceeding through the stop sign and entering onto South Main Street, he collided with Valverde’s vehicle.

Possible injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.

Trnik was issued an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign. Valverde was issued an infraction for driving without a license.
