Nighthawk Boys’ Swim Team Races Past Bunnell-Stratford

The Newtown High School boys’ swimming team traveled to Stratford and defeated the Bunnell-Stratford co-op 88-66 on January 30. The Nighthawks sealed the team win in the 500 yard freestyle race and exhibitioned the final four races.

Newtown’s 200 medley relay team of Oliver Clancy, Finn Clancy, Gabe Petertonjes, and Connor Kwarcinski was first in a time of 1:53.66. Elias Kolb, Duncan Kolb, Brady Wennerhom, and Warren Ache came in second in 2:01.28.

James Guerrieri won the 200 freestyle race in 2:00.44; Kris Luci-Bernard was second, clocking in at 2:01.45. Johnny Barzetti and Wennerholm went one-two in the 200 individual medley races with times of 2:24.15 and 2:31.82. In the 50 free, Hayden Bobowick took the top spot in 25.06 and Connor Kelly was runner-up in 26.27.

In the 100 butterfly event, Petertonjes was first with a time of 57.38; Jeremiah Stone was second in 1:09.63. Guerrieri was first in the 100 free in 54.41; Bobowick came in second in 57.18. Luci-Bernard won the 500, making his final touch in 5:36.69; Barzetti was next in 5:46.00.

The 200 free relay contingent of Petertonjes, Bobowick, Guerrieri, and Ache was first in 1:40.85; the team of Kwarcinski, Elias Kolb, Wennerholm, and Duncan Kolb came in second in 1:41.26.

Oliver Clancy was the fastest to the finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.64; Elias Kolb was second in 1:08.77. Kwarcinski was fastest in the 100 breaststroke event in 1:08.59; Finn Clancy was next in 1:12.32.

In the 400 free relay, Bobowick, Guerrieri, Oliver Clancy, and Luci-Bernard finished in 3:54.02; Ache, Kelly, Jason Wasilnak, and Barzetti followed in 4:01.32.
