Newtown High School’s wrestling team improved to 13-0 with a 75-0 win over host Stratford on January 18. Newtown won all 13 bouts in the varsity dual including pins from Tommy Milligan, Ty Jorgenson, Shaun Daoust, Grayson Renkert, Antonio Arguello, Jack Maddox, Marc Maurath, Fisher Stites, and Jon DaSilva. Newtown is the only undefeated team in the South-West Conference heading into Thursday's visit to Bethel.

Newtown’s JV squad competed at the Danbury Patton JV Tournament on January 20. First place finishers were Josh Miller, Spencer Jorgenson, and Preston Green; second place went to Rafe D’Agostino, Nick Teixeira, and Billy King; and coming in third were Ryan Yong, Caleb Birtwell, Brad Neave, Troy Da Silva, and Andrew Gegelishvilli.

The Varsity team took second place at the Colter Abely Mid-Season Classic over the weekend. NHS beat out No. 3 East Hartford, No. 7 Simsbury, and No. 9 Trumbull, falling short behind only No. 1 Connecticut team Xavier of Middletown. Stites and DaSilva earned first; Milligan, Gioffre, and Arguello all finished second; Maddox was third; Maurath and Charlie Dunn fifth; and Ty Jorgenson placed sixth.

The Nighthawks welcomed two more grapplers to the 100-win club as Gioffre picked up his milestone triumph at Stratford and Milligan got his at the Abely Mid-Season Classic.
