Nighthawk Teams Defeated In State Tourney Action
Newtown High School's girls' volleyball, girls' and boys' soccer, and field hockey teams all battled to the finish but fell in state tournament play November 8 and 9.
On the volleyball court, in Class LL action, the No. 6 Nighthawks fell 3-1 (21-25, 25-14, 24-14, 25-17) to No. 11 Greenwich in the second round, at NHS, on November 9.
Zosia Teraszkiewicz had a dozen kills and 11 digs; Liz Anesi logged eight kills and five digs; Addy Cordova had five kills and ten digs; Sara Heinen collected four kills and a trio of digs; and Gabby Soltis racked up 31 assists.
In first-round Class L field hockey action on November 8, No. 10 Newtown visited and lost to No. 7 Greenwich 3-0.
On the soccer pitch, in second-round Class LL play, the No. 17 Newtown girls fell 3-1 to top seed Mercy on November 8. The Newtown boys, No. 12 in Class L, fell 1-0 at No. 5 Suffield in second-round play on November 9.
