Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ soccer teams posted shutout wins over Stratford on October 12. The girls prevailed 1-0 on the road and the boys rolled 5-0 on home turf on Senior Night. The teams took on Notre Dame-Fairfield on October 17 with the girls at home and boys on the road this time.

The girls were defeated 3-0 and fell to 7-5-1 overall, and the boys came out on top 2-1. Gjin Abazi had the strike to even the score and Luke Kellerman netted the game winner. Both goals were set up by Curtis Verdi as the boys improved to 8-4-2.

Seniors who were honored include Yarema Stasyshyn, Kyle Ruddy, Brady Lavelle, Woody Morris, Connor Muir, Hayden Bobowick, Luke Kellerman, Emad Azba, Alexander Dzamko, Elliot Rosecrans, Gabe Petertonjes, Gjin Abazi, Gabriel Appiah, and Johnny Celli.

Newtown’s girls were to celebrate Senior Night on Thursday, October 19, when New Milford visited. Seniors include Kenzie Del Pozo, Sara Premus, Julia Dimyan, Sydney Oltran, Izzy Caron, Sofia Verdi, and Ella Morits.

Both squads face Masuk of Monroe on Monday, October 23, with the boys at home and the girls on the road, both at 6 pm.
