To the Editor:

Before voters head to the polls on November 7, I’d like to let residents know why I want to represent them on the Legislative Council for District 1.

First, I have been living and volunteering in town for over 20 years. Currently, I am on the Board of Finance, which has prepared me to analyze budgets, balance needs, and oversee municipal operations. I am running for Legislative Council this time to use my experience and skills in a broader context.

Farther back, Chris Gardner (another Legislative Council District 1 candidate) and I oversaw the merger of two small nonprofit counseling centers forming the Newtown Youth and Family Services agency. It is now the largest mental health clinic and youth services bureau in Connecticut. I also chaired the Holiday Festival and the NYFS Board for many years.

Finally, as a principal at an outplacement high school, I am known as a fearless advocate for our youth. I create opportunities and outcomes while managing a multimillion dollar budget. There is no better preparation for public service than spending years with teenagers and loving it!

There are many qualified candidates on this year’s ballot. I will work collaboratively and purposefully with every elected official to serve all residents. I would appreciate your vote this November 7th.
