Swim And Dive Squad Wins Home Meets

Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team defeated visiting Bunnell of Stratford 85-75 on September 29. The Nighthawks sealed the team win with four events to go and exhibitioned the rest of the way.

The 200 yard medley relay team of Lauren Smiley, Zoe Petertonjes, Grace Fischer, and Diellza Limani was first in 2:00.34.

Alexa Kwarcinski won the 200 freestyle race in 2:00.05; Ella Seaver was second in 2:18.12. Limani was first in the 200 individual medley race in 2:28.96; Audrey McLean was second in 2:50.12. Anna Shew won the 50 free in 27.58; Lillian Accettella was second in 28.30.

Shannon O’Donnell won the diving competition with a score of 177.30; Genova Whorf was runner-up with 128.55.

Kwarcinski won the 100 butterfly event in 1:01.81; Madelyn Marcisz was second with a time of 1:07.59. Anna Shew won the 100 free in 1:01.31; Sierra Marx was runner-up in 1:05.32. Smiley won the 500, making her final touch in 6:06.17; Emily Metzker came in second in 6:23.69.

The 200 free relay of Petertonjes, Mariscz, Noelle Marrazzo, and Seaver was first in 1:53.85.

Fischer had the fastest time in the 100 backstroke, clocking in at 1:08.66; Marx was next in 1:11.61. Petertonjes won the 100 breaststroke race in 1:17.28; McLean was second in 1:24.30.

The 400 free relay of Shew, Metzker, Marrazzo, and Accettella was tops in 4:17.19; the second-place relay was Smiley, Marx, Indigo Land, and Seaver in 4:22.30.

In another home meet, on October 3, the Nighthawks topped Immaculate-Bethel 90-71, locking up the team triumph with two events to go.

The 200 medley relay of Seaver, Kwarcinski, Fischer, and Shew was first in 2:03.00. The relay comprising Smiley, Accettella, Marcisz, and Maddy Watson was second in 2:12.34.

Limani won the 200 free in a time of 2:10.10. Seaver and Watson went one-two in the 50 with times of 27.64 and 29.02.

Ella Hall was the top diver with a score of 245.80 and Nicole Gutrie was second with a score of 169.80.

Accettella was second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:08.26. Kwarcinski won the 100 free in 56.47 and Marcisz was second in 1:03.56. Shew won the 500 in a time of 5:52.15 and Angela Wennerholm was runner-up in 6:17.43.

The 200 free relay of Limani, Watson, Seaver, and Kwarcinski was first in 1:49.13.

Smiley came in second in the backstroke event in 1:09.39. Fischer was second in the breaststroke race with a time of 1:12.37.

The 400 relay team of Shew, Smiley, Accettella, and Limani was first in 4:06.23.
