The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) has invited artist Peter Seltzer to critique original works of art by SCAN members on Wednesday, September 13, at 7:30 pm. The event will be in the lower meeting room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole).

SCAN members will have up to two of their original paintings available for Seltzer to view. Seltzer will critique as many pieces as possible.

The public is welcome, also without fee, to view the works and hear the critiques.

A multiple award-winning artist, Seltzer’s paintings in oil and pastel have been exhibited at numerous public venues including Butler (Ohio) Institute of American Art group and solo shows, New Britain Museum of American Art (NBMAA), Noyes (N.J.) Museum of Art, Canton (Ohio) Museum of Art, and National Arts Club, National Academy of Design and the Salmagundi Club, all in New York City.

In addition, his work is represented in the permanent collections of Butler Institute, NBMAA, Harvard University, and New Haven Paint and Clay’s 100+ year collection.

Many in-depth articles about his work and technique have appeared in American Artist Magazine, The Artist’s Magazine, Pastel Journal, and Connecticut Magazine.

In addition, his paintings have been included in fine art books such as Strokes of Genius 9, The Best of Pastel 1 and 2, The Best of Sketching and Drawing, Pure Color: The Best of Pastel, and Pure Color.

Seltzer has been honored with the Master Pastelist designation by the Pastel Society of America and has been given Master Circle status with the International Association of Pastel Societies along with receiving an invitation-only membership from Allied Artists of America.

Among his 100+ awards are three Best of Show awards in the Pastel Society of America annual exhibition and four Gold and five Silver medals in national and international exhibitions, as well as a Bronze medal.

Reservations are not taken for SCAN programs, but additional information may be available at scanart.org.

“Secrets” is a 20” by 16” pastel by the Master Pastelist Peter Seltzer. The artist, who Butler Institute of American Art Dr Louis Zona calls “an artist whose work will long be associated with multi-tiered excellence,” will offer critiques of SCAN member works this month.
