Wanda Keegan, 83, of Newtown, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday August 5, 2023.

Wanda was born and raised in Bridgeport, Conn. It was in Bridgeport that she met the love of her life, John Keegan, and they married in 1964. Wanda and John were lifelong residents of Newtown. They celebrated 58 years of marriage until John’s unexpected passing in November 2022.

Wanda was employed by the State of Connecticut at Fairfield Hills Hospital as a secretary in 1972. She spent decades thoroughly enjoying her job and co-workers until the hospital permanently closed in the 1990s.

Later, she became the office manager at Misty Morning Children’s Center and was known as “Miss Wanda.” Tough as nails and a true stickler for accuracy, she ran a tight ship in the office. Many who remember her during that time will fondly laugh about some of her mannerisms and comments while maintaining her level of integrity.

They will also remember her kind and nurturing heart that she showed all of the children who attended the center.

Wanda enjoyed traveling with her family, especially to Foxwoods Casino. Wanda was extremely talented with her sewing, knitting and crocheting skills. Her beautiful work will be enjoyed for many generations.

Wanda is survived by her daughter, Wendy (Tim) Whelan of Newtown; son John (Yvonne) Keegan of Montville; grandchildren, Kristen (Robert Creighton) Whelan, Jamie (Morgan) Luzzi, and Jack Whelan; great grandson, Robert J. Creighton III; sister, Catherine Sparks of Kentucky and several cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Wanda was predeceased by her husband, John W. Keegan; parents, Joseph Bilida and Wanda (Zaleski) Bilida; brother, Joseph Bilida and sister, Irene Bilida.

The family would like to thank the Castle Group Home Care of Newtown for the excellent home services that were provided to Wanda for more than a year. They would also like to thank Mary Badolato, who became a true friend and second daughter to Wanda.

Friends are invited to greet the family on Friday, August 11, from 9:30 to 11 am at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. A service will be held at 11 am at the funeral home and Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 208 South Main Street, Newtown.
