Ingrid (Otten) McCauley, age 92, of Newtown, the beloved wife of David Allan McCauley, entered into rest peacefully on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Bethel Health Care Center, Bethel, Connecticut.
She was born in Germany on January 12, 1931, the oldest of two children to the late William and Emma (Postera) Otten, and emigrated to the United States in the 1930s with her family. Ingrid was a proud graduate of Barnard College, class of 1953. After college she embarked on her career as a high school teacher in Connecticut at Masuk High School in Monroe (where she met David), Joel Barlow High School in Redding and Brookfield High School.
Ingrid and David spent most of their adult life in and around Newtown and Bethel, Connecticut. Ingrid was a great cook and loved to entertain.
A voracious reader and intellect, she was fascinated by the world around her. She and David loved to travel and experience local cultures, including several trips behind the Iron Curtain. They once visited the Soviet Union during December just so they could “experience the Russian Winter.” They were also regular visitors to St John island in the US Virgin Islands for over 30 years.
She will be sadly missed by her friends and family. Ingrid was predeceased by her husband David Allen McCauley and her brother Gerhard Otten.
A Funeral Service in Celebration of Ingrid’s Life will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 11 am at Elmwood Cemetery, Old Lantern Drive, Bethel.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ingrid’s memory may be made to St James’ Episcopal Church, 25 West Street, Danbury, CT 06810 or to a charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Honan Funeral Home 58 Main Street, Newtown.
