Both Drivers Injured

Newtown Police report Jack Anderlot, 18, of Brookfield, operating a 2013 Mazda3, was traveling west on Church Hill Road at 6:49 pm July 15. Jose Cruz-Perez, 25, of West Haven, operating a 2021 Ram PRM, was traveling east on Church Hill Road. Police say Anderlot attempted to turn left into 66 Church Hill Road through the exit only lane, moving in front of Cruz-Perez’s vehicle. The front of Cruz-Perez’s vehicle struck the passenger side of Anderlot’s vehicle.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries and were transported to Danbury Hospital. Both vehicles were towed.

Anderlot was issued a written warning for failure to yield right of way.

Overturned Vehicle

Newtown Police report Kenneth Savoie, 19, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2009 Hyundai Elantra, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road in the area of Zoar Road at 6:56 am July 15. While negotiating a left curve in the roadway, police say Savoie ran off the roadway right, overturned and came to a stop off the westbound shoulder.

Savoie had suspected minor injuries but declined transport. Savoie’s vehicle was towed from the scene due to disabling damage.

Savoie was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Hit Vehicle In Front Of Driveway

Newtown Police report Timothy Werden, 59, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2007 Ford Ranger, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 8:26 am July 18. Dara Dickhut, 43, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban, was stopped in front of a driveway in the westbound lane of Church Hill Road. Police say Werden attempted to turn into the driveway and the rear passenger tire area of his vehicle struck the front bumper area of Dickhut’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Werden was issued a verbal warning for making an improper turn.

Rear-Ended Turning

Newtown Police report Albert Jansen, 62, of Southbury, operating a 2015 Dodge Dart, was traveling southbound on Main Street at 3:03 pm July 18. He was traveling behind a 2021 Subaru Ascent operated by Elvina Rugovac, 31, of Woodbury. Police say Rugovac attempted to turn left onto Church Hill Road, and as she turned, Jansen also turned left, and the front bumper of Jansen’s vehicle struck the rear bumper of Rugovac’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Jansen was issued a written warning for failure to keep a reasonable distance apart.

Struck Road Sign

Newtown Police report Jonathan Valle, 28, of Hartford, operating a 2007 Freightliner M2 112 Medium Duty tractor trailer, was traveling south on Hawleyville Road at 4:02 pm July 18. When he saw traffic stopped ahead, Valle attempted to swerve right to avoid a stopped vehicle, but left the roadway right, striking a roadway sign owned by the State of Connecticut.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Valle was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.

Hit Two Cars In Lot

Newtown Police report Jackson Douglas, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2021 Honda Pilot, was parked in a marked parking spot in the commercial parking lot of 228 South Main Street at 1:52 pm July 19. An unoccupied 2018 Nissan Sentra owned by Michele Astorino and an unoccupied 2020 Mini Cooper owned by Stephanie Vollono were parked on the opposite side of the travel lane.

Douglas said that as he was backing from his space, he accidentally applied the accelerator instead of the brake, striking the rear bumper of the Nissan, and then continuing into the rear driver’s side area of the Mini.

No injuries were reported. None of the vehicles were towed.

No enforcement action was taken because the incident occurred on private property.

Foot Fell Off Brake

Newtown Police report Michael Pierce, 24, of Southbury, operating a 2022 Honda Accord, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 5:32 pm July 19. He was traveling behind a 2021 Toyota Rav4 operated by Rachel Gonzales, 42, of Danbury. Police say Gonzales stopped for a red light on Church Hill Road, and Pierce stopped behind her. Pierce said his foot fell off the brake pedal and the front of Pierce’s vehicle struck the rear of Gonzales’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Pierce was issued a verbal warning for following too closely and unsafe movement of a standing vehicle.

Parking Lot Fender Bender

Newtown Police report Lucas Domingos, 17, of Brookfield, operating a 2012 Jeep Wrangler, was in the parking lot of 14 West Street at 5:10 pm July 20. While attempting to turn around, his vehicle struck a 2012 Toyota Tacoma operated by Leonard Bisaccia, 48, of Brookfield, that was parked in the same lot.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Drug Charges

Newtown Police report that officers performed a traffic stop at 1:38 am July 22 after observing several motor vehicle violations. Further investigation determined that the operator of the vehicle, Taylor Brown, 37, of Milford, was in possession of narcotic paraphernalia and did not have a valid driver’s license.

Brown was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, interfering with police, operating without a license, and making a restricted turn.

She was released on a promise to appear and given a court date of August 3 in Danbury Superior Court.

Received A Dent

Newtown Police report Francesco Crudo, 62, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2014 BMW Z4, was reversing from a garage in a driveway on Misty Vale Road at 6:02 pm July 22. Kailah Williams, 25, of New Haven, operating a 2021 Ram PRM Amazon delivery truck, was parked in the same driveway, delivering a package. Crudo did not see Williams’ vehicle and backed into it.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Collided With Utility Pole

Newtown Police report that at 8:58 pm July 22, officers responded to a single car motor vehicle accident on Berkshire Road. Upon arrival, officers found that a vehicle had crashed into a utility pole, which had broken. The roadway was closed in both directions.

Police say the operator, Edmar Ranolfi, 48, of Sandy Hook, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to obey a stop sign.

Ranolfi was released on a $1,000 bond with a court date of August 1 in Danbury Superior Court.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Daniel Mailloux, 61, of Danbury, operating a 2011 Subaru Outback, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 12:45 pm July 23. He was traveling behind a 2013 Subaru Legacy operated by Caroline Chaves, 25, of Newtown. Police say Chaves stopped in the right northbound lane at the intersection of Button Shop Road, and the front of Mailloux’s vehicle struck the rear of Chaves’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Mailloux was issued a written warning for following too close.

Erratic Driver Arrested

At 10:04 pm July 23, Newtown Police were dispatched on a report of an erratic driver traveling northbound on South Main Street. Officers located the vehicle on Main Street and engaged in a traffic stop. Further investigation led to the arrest of Kevin Wamputsrik-Pinchupa, 23, of Danbury, who was charged with operation of an unregistered motor vehicle, improper use of marker plates, operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and operation of a motor vehicle without a license.

Wamputsrik-Pinchupa was released on a $1,000 bond with a court date of August 8 in Danbury Superior Court.

Newtown Police, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue all responded to Berkshire Road around 5 pm Sunday, July 23, for a two-vehicle crash. Newtown police report Meghann J. Freeman, 40, was operating a 2011 BMW X5 35i east on Berkshire Road near its intersection with Zoar. Concurrently, Duane C. Field, 44, of Orange, was operating a 2023 Chevrolet Traverse RS westbound in the same area. The front passenger sides of the two vehicles collided; Freeman’s vehicle continued approximately 25 feet, rolling onto its roof. Both drivers were able to exit their vehicles. They were checked for injuries, and both declined transport to the hospital. Following an investigation Freeman was found at fault for the crash. She was issued summonses for reckless driving and failure to maintain a proper lane. She was released at the scene on a written promise to appear in court on August 8. —Bee Photo, Hicks
