I have known Matt Mihalcik for years after serving with him on the C.H. Booth Library Board of Trustees and as an elected representative to Newtown’s Legislative Council where Matt chairs the Administration and Finance Committee.

Matt is a smart, thoughtful leader with an innate ability to bring people together and build consensus. I have found him to be a well-respected leader in the community and someone that has a passion for maintaining Newtown as a thriving small town.

This month Newtown has an opportunity to select new leadership. At the Republican caucus to be held on Tuesday, July 25th at Edmond Town Hall at 7 pm, we will select a candidate for First Selectman to represent the party on the November ballot. Matt Mihalcik is the best candidate for this opportunity and for Newtown.

Matt is a Small Business Lender with Newtown Savings Bank and has been involved with the small business community for years including his time volunteering as Vice President of the Newtown Chamber of Commerce. Further, he co-owns a thriving small business in town with his wife Melissa.

Before his time on the Legislative Council, he was elected to Newtown’s Board of Finance, which provided a sound foundation to understanding the town’s budget and how town departments interact. Matt’s advice and counsel has been sought during times of need. Former First Selectman Pat Llodra appointed Matt to Newtown’s Economic Development Commission and the town of Southbury appointed him to their Tax Incentive Task Force.

Matt has spoken repeatedly about ensuring Newtown remains a special place for all to live, work and flourish. I am confident of his dedication to Newtown and encourage Republicans support him at the caucus on July 25.
