This obituary was written and submitted by Ronjit Basak-Smith.

Madhumita Basak-Smith passed away at age 61 on May 4th, 2023 at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut.

There will be a celebration of life ceremony on July 22, 2023 at 71 Lakeview Terr., Sandy Hook, Conn., beginning at 1 pm. For information and details please reach out. This is a celebration of Molly’s life to include food, music, and a casual attire.

Molly had many remarkable qualities that deserve a special mention. One of the most remarkable aspects of Molly was her ability to stay connected, on a regular basis, to so many friends and family members throughout the world. Molly had many hobbies including kayaking, snow skiing, water skiing, cycling, running, and swimming, but especially traveling.

She got it all in and then some before she passed away.

Professionally, with her masters in nutrition from Cornell, she made a big impression on the parents’ and children’s lives and most importantly, their health most recently, through the cooperative extension program at UConn. She also managed our Veterinary Hospital and our lives with great passion. Never a dull moment when Molly was involved.

Molly is survived by her three sons, Ronjit 34, Sanjit 30, Raja 28, her husband David as well as so many loving family and friends. We all miss her so dearly.

The loss of Molly is beyond any words. She lived her life as passionately as humanly possible. She always said to live every day as if it were your last because you never know.

I’m so happy she lived by this motto and I’m proud to have been lucky enough to be by her side for a wonderful ride. We were together from 16 to 61. It was a fast ride but she didn’t miss out on much. We will all love and treasure her wonderful memories forever.
