Tennis Players Post Wins, Girls Win Title

Newtown High School’s girls’ tennis team followed up a strong regular season with a South-West Conference championship (check the May 26 print edition of The Bee for more coverage of the team's May 18 SWC title).

NHS defeated host Notre Dame-Fairfield 7-0 on May 10. Willow Assante-LaBash and Nadia Andrew both won 6-0, 6-0 in the top two singles spots. Sophia Dutsar won 6-2, 6-2 at third singles, and Eren Weiss came out on top 6-0, 6-3 at fourth singles. In doubles, Olivia Guizzo and Isabella Montoya won 6-0, 6-1; Margaret Donovan and Ella Morits won 6-1, 6-1; and Brooke Jackson and Katie Jarvis won 6-0, 6-0.

The Nighthawks defeated host New Milford 7-0 on May 15. Assante-LaBash won 6-0, 6-0, Andrew and Madison Singlak both won 6-1, 6-0, and Dutsar came out on top 6-2, 6-3. In doubles play, Kristen Reisert and Caitlin Briggs were victorious 6-0, 6-1; Guizzo and Montoya won 6-2, 6-0; and Erin Marshall and Molly Lyddy won 6-2, 6-1.

On the boys’ courts, NHS posted a 5-2 win over visiting New Milford on May 15.
