Banning Books

To the Editor:

Respectfully, we “ban” books all the time at libraries.

Does any school in town have a copy of Mein Kampf (sic)? Do the schools have The Bible or the Koran? Do any of them have Dwight Eisenhower’s At Ease.

Do they all get a subscription to The Newtown Bee? The fact is by choosing not to purchase a title, our Librarians are in fact “banning books” every day. At issue now is that our particular interest is being affected.

Unless an attorney can weigh in, I do not see a 1st Amendment issue for us. Maybe the author?

If the Board/Librarians cannot filter publications then must they buy anything one citizen asks for? No one is preventing a parent from getting a book for their child.

The same for the 14th Amendment. How is this affecting my Equal Protection?

Thank you,

Charles Shaw
