How would you describe your occupation? I’ve been a financial advisor for over 25 years. My office is in Danbury. I help regular people with their retirement, and managing their investments. Most of my clients have been with me for about 20 years.

Who is in your family? My wife, Jen, and her son Owen. My son Elliot lives with his mom in Oklahoma. He is 22, and spends summers with me. I was born and raised in Bethel, and my mom still lives in that house with my brother. Jen’s mom spends a lot of time with us.

How long have you lived in Newtown? Fifteen years now.

Do you have any pets? Two dogs: Mitch and Mookie. There was a player on the Boston Red Sox called Mitch Moreland, and that’s how Mitch got his name. Mookie is named after Mookie Betts, formerly of the Red Sox. My wife and Owen are avid fans. We also have a couple goldfish. One of them is huge; maybe six years old.

What do you like to do in your free time? I like mountain biking. I’ve got friends I’ve been riding with for 20 years. Mitch and Mookie love going for runs, so I take them to Fairfield Hills. I like going to the NYA to lift weights.

What’s your favorite book? Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut, and Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. I also love Stephen King. To me, his best book was It.

Who or what has been the greatest influence on your life? Before I became a financial advisor, I worked for my uncle’s grocery store in Ridgefield, Ancona’s Market. My Uncle Joe was a huge influence on me over the years, from a business perspective and a people perspective. All of those things that are important — honesty, integrity, working hard — came from working for my uncle.

If you could spend the day with one person, who would you choose? A singer-songwriter out of Nashville named Todd Snyder. He’s my age. I discovered him a year ago, and have been listening to him non-stop. I’m fascinated with him because he is the exact opposite of me. He’s been on the road for the last 30 years, that’s all he does. My life has been so structured, and this guy is just perfectly comfortable to be out on the road all the time.

What is the greatest piece of advice you’ve ever been given? My first boss in the finance world’s advice was “Keep swinging, and you’ll get a hit.”

What is something you can’t live without? Music and trails. Having a place to run, to bike, snowshoe, hike — I’d go crazy without it.

What’s your favorite travel destination? Going to Fenway Park is a regular thing for us. We love Boston. In the winter, we like going to Vermont and skiing.

What’s the best part of Newtown? I’ve made a lot of great friends in Newtown, I have to mention that. I also love Fairfield Hills and the Governor’s Horse Guard. I love going through those properties really early, when there’s nobody around, before sunrise. The Horse Guard especially is a hidden oasis right here in town.
