Volleyball Team Defeats Cougars
In a pair of road contests, the Newtown High School's boys' volleyball team followed up a 3-1 (25-11, 25-10, 22-25, 25-15) loss to Amity Regional High School on May 5 with a 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 25-18, 27-25) win over the Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport Cougars on May 8.
Against Amity, the Nighthawks were led by sophomore middle hitter Warner Bacon (five kills and two total blocks), senior setter Braden Hazard (12 assists, one dig, one ace, and one solo block), and senior outside hitter Nico Diaz (six digs and six kills).
In the Kolbe match, Diaz recorded ten kills, 14 digs, and an ace; junior outside hitter Charlie Hanson logged ten kills, one solo block, and 11 digs; sophomore right side hitter Nate Twitchell tallied six kills, four solo blocks, an ace, and a pair of digs; and junior setter Matt Tomaj compiled 16 assists, one solo block, and five digs. The Nighthawks improved to 3-10 (3-6 in South-West Conference play).
